Multi Skills
For 3 years now the North Wealden SSP had adopted Multi Skills coaching following the outcomes of the Long Term Athlete Development research and FUNdamentals of coaching.
Funding initially through DCMS (Department for Culture Media & Sport) we have been fortunate enough to employ a full time coach offering schools the opportunity to have coaching within schools free of charge.
Throughout the 3 year programme the scheme has developed into what eventually will become a sustainable project in the Partnership.
Multi Skills has embraced the Young Leaders Awards (through Sports Leaders / BST) encouraging schools to train year 5 & 6 pupils to enable multi skills activities during school break and lunchtimes.
In previous years the programme has identified year 3 & 4 gifted and talented students to take part in the annual gifted and talented multi skills academy. The academy provides coaching for girls and boys in a range of different skills and sports.
The identification of talented young people has been made easier through the development of the gifted and talented cards (see our Resources page) which can be used as part of a PE lesson or for assessment purposes on their own.
Multi Skills Virtual League
The virtual multi skills league has been created to give children the chance to be involved in inter school competition. Each individual in the class completes 4 multi skill activities and records their highest score. The activities include cups and saucers, catch and balance, stork stand and a target throw. An average is taken for the class and results are entered onto the website.
