Community Sports Coach

The School Sport Coaching Programme is just one of the work strands that will help us to enable a world class system for PE and sport for all children and young people.

The aim is to recruit, train and deploy a number of sports coaches working in school sport and to increase the number of coaching hours delivered through school sport by 675,000 hours per year across the country.

The coaches will aim to increase participation amongst young people to try and increase activity levels to 5 hours a week per person. The coaches will be expected to work in out of hour’s activity sessions run at a school site.

Funding for the School Sport Coaching Programme will be available to the School Sport Partnerships from September 2008 for the next 3 years.

The national model will see each School Sport Partnership delivering 1000 coaching hours each year.

North Wealden will benefit from the coaching fund in a number of ways;

  • Contribute to the funding of the full time Multi Skills Post
  • Contribute to a coaching fund for Key Stage 3 & 4 coaching across the 5 Partner Secondary Schools, each aiming to deliver a minimum of 90 additional hours per school.
  • Contribute to a coaching fund for Key Stage 1 & 2 coaching across 5 clusters, each cluster aiming to deliver an additional 20 hours coaching.

Coaching will be needs led in the clusters and can be determined by pre and post competitive activities or linked to local sports clubs in order to create sustainable exit routes.

Further details on the scheme will appear here.
