Big Lottery Fund
The Big Lottery Fund has assisted the North Wealden Partnership for several years, providing funds for projects in various sports and groups across the Partnership.
A total grant in excess of £142k has aided projects in each of the clusters. Projects have assisted hard to reach groups, disengaged children, children with disabilities, girls & children with low esteem to name a few.
The activities have ranged from traditional sports such as netball, tennis & hockey to more varied programmes such as "Love the skin you're in" at Heathfield Community College, which has been particularly successful due to the way the targeting and delivery has been positioned. Girls have been engaged with this activity as it encompasses lifestyle as well as physical activity.
Uplands Technology College embraced a traditional sport in the rural location, bowls, which has proved a great success linking some students into a club who otherwise may not be taking part in sport.
Beacon Community College introduced a successful Young Leaders Programme during 2007 / 2008. A programme which will be delivered again this year, engaging year 9’s into leadership activities.
The Uckfield Pirates programme provides sports & activities for children with disabilities, for which we hope to build upon this year with the introduction of the Playground to Podium scheme.
Chailey will look to deliver a Girls Inclusion project from September 2008, offering a wide range of alternative activities to girls, providing taster sessions and links to new activities.
In all, more than 20 programmes have been delivered throughout the Partnership utilising the Big Lottery Funds with children from all Key Stages benefitting from the activities delivered.
