2009 / 2010 Training and Courses

Quicksticks Primary Teachers Training Course

We are running a Quicksticks training course at Beacon Community College on the 24th February 2010. Quicksticks is a game for 7-11 year olds which has been specially designed to introduce the sport of hockey to teachers and pupils who have little or no prior knowledge of the game.

Attached are some advisory guidelines for Quicksticks and all SSCo’s have a short DVD and leaflet about the game which can be circulated amongst those that want to know more. Those that want to do this course should register their interest well in advance with Linda Ingle or their SSCo.

Teachers will receive 3 hours of training at Beacon, a curriculum resource pack (worth £89.99) and the Quicksticks kit bag (worth £299) This would provide each primary school with enough equipment to be able to get up and running. In order for us to pay for this each school participating would put in claims for 2.5 days PLT money of which only half a day (£84) would go to the school for supply cover for the training time on the 24th .Paperwork would be sent out to participants in advance.

Please return the application form as possible to ensure your place is booked. Due to cost it is likely to be the one and only time we offer this course so if you want to get involved with primary hockey both in the curriculum and out of school hours do try and attend.

If you need anymore information about the game, equipment or the costs please do not hesitate to contact Linda Ingle or your SSCo.

North Wealden Primary Schools took advantage of the LTA’s Primary School Teachers Course on the 4th November 2009.

18 Schools received training at Waldron Hall, Heathfield by tennis trainer Jane Burniston. The 3 hour course consists of practical activity, warm up games, drills and festival organisation.

The course is designed to give primary teachers the confidence to deliver tennis to a class of children in a small space.

All attendees received a supporting DVD teaching aid, which is pupil facing and delivers and demonstrates the activities directly to the children, allowing the teacher to do what they do best, teach.

All schools have since received 30 free rackets, 60 balls and a net from the LTA.

The 2009 / 2010 Partnership Day will be held at the PGL site, Windmill Hill on Monday 19th October. The day open to all PLT’s throughout the North Wealden Partnership will not only give schools the opportunity to experience the East Sussex approved outdoor centre but will provide an insight into PE and School Sport for the forthcoming academic year.

PLT’s can claim for their supply cover in the usual way.
